Service :: ISAT Mural Project by Sister

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” -Mahatma Ghandi

I have the most amazing sisters in the world. Back in October, I had the privilege to help my sister Lexi to put together this therapy room for the Intermountain Specialized Abuse Treatment Center. Lexi received a scholarship for this service project from the University of Utah EMBA Program and she is also a Service Learning Scholar at the University of Utah. My sister is such a loving, Christlike person. She is always looking for ways to serve others. I am grateful for the examples of those around me to give back.

The biggest part of the project was the mural. My sister is an artist...an incredible artist! And this was a large mural. We spent two long weekends there; it was a lot of work and we never wanted to touch paint again, but it was so worth it as we saw the tears of the director and heard of the impact this room has had and will continue to have on the lives of those patients they work with. Watch the video to learn more about this project.

Let me jump on my soapbox for a minute. Get out and SERVE. Volunteer. Find your passion and do what you can to make a difference. My passion is women's empowerment and international development. If we all did a little more, the world would be an even better place. The world can always use more love. Some of my favorite adventures have been through service...to my family and to my community. This project certainly was a crazy adventure but it reminded me of just how small I am but yet, how I can still have a great impact. I have "found myself" over and over again by focusing on service and helping others, it keeps things in perspective :)

With that said, Love UT Give UT is coming up on March 26th - give back to your community by give funds and helping to raise donations for your favorite local nonprofit. If you are not local to Utah, I encourage each of you to find a way to give back to your community this week, no matter how big or small.

If you would like suggestions on how to give back or organizations I would recommend, feel free to reach out :) I am always happy to help!

And after all of this hard work, we were rewarded with one of the most beautiful sunsets. God is good.

Liz
